Peapod - update

Im sure you know that Peapods name isnt actually Peapod, but its what she was called when we first found out I was pregnant and its just kinda stuck. Peapod, is now 5 years old, yes FIVE years old, how did that happen? only seems like 5 minutes ago I blogged about finding out I was pregnant with her, she has just finished her reception year at primary school and is looking forward to starting year 1 in a few weeks time. Her school teachers always comment that she is a quiet but polite little girl who is kind to her friends but is also quite shy and needs a bit of encouragement in new situations. She was born with congential hip dysplsia, and was placed in a pavlik harness in the hope that 6 weeks in that wuld cure her hip dislocating all the time, however it took a futher tendonotomy, and She has an old head on her shoulders and often says things that sound very strange coming from a 5 year old. for example a few weeks ago she was over heard saying to her uncle "I've t...

update

Its been too long since I blogged, there has been so much happened since I last blogged, too much to write in one blog post.  But a quick overview would be that its been one hell of a stressful two years, so much so I don't know how we have gotten through it at times. I've lost both of my nanas, both formidable, women in different ways and both in their 90s, grief sucks and although neither death was unexpected it doesn't ease the grieving process. Peapod stared nursery and went from strength to strength although is still quite shy at times. The Mr, got made redundant was out of work for about a year, then found a new job, only to injure his back and to be paid off for health reasons, he is now awaiting a neurosurgical opinion with the outcome being probable surgery on his back. Now to Neve, where to start? and how do you compress 2 years worth of medical information and events into a short update blog post? Lots and lots going on with Neve which I will explain in a lon...

Feeling tired & emotional.

My youngest started nursery this week, only and hour a day for the first week, and gradually building up to a full morning in two weeks time. My eldest starts into a senior class in her school today. When did my girls grow up?  Pea pods first morning in nursery went well she bounded into nursery saying hello to the teacher, played in the sand pit, and had explore around the outdoor play area. All the while saying "come on mammy lets go and look"  Her second day arrived and she was excited to get her uniform on and go, albeit at 830am and her hour at nursery didn't start till 1045am. When we arrived she sat with me for ten minutes and then went off to explore on her own, I stayed in the classroom and watched her playing outside with her teacher and other kiddies, like a lioness watching her cubs on a first outing, waiting to pounce at the first sign of distress. There was none! My little girl hardly even noticed I wasn't right by her side. Today is her third day and to...

Confessions.

I've read lots of post/blogs recently  from other special needs mams, and I've often thought they are really quite spot on but I've always said I would write my own one day. 1. I will walk the long way round.  Ok I know it's not often I walk anywhere, but when I do I go out of my way to stay off main roads because Neve cannot cope with traffic noise well. Life with a disabled child means going the long way around everything in life.  2. I cry and feel guilty about it.  I don't cry often but when I do it can seem to be over the smallest most insignificant thing, but please know that I need to cry once in a while and ok I might cry off and on for 12 hours but I will be better after a huge sobfest.  3. I have lost friends. Friends I thought would be there for me, but I also have found out who my real friends are, friends I might not see for months on end but I know if I rang them up and needed them they would listen and be there for me. And I hope they know they I ...

Apologies

Firstly apologies for not blogging for a long long time.  Lots and lots have happened since I last blogged, which have taken my focus away from blogging. My last post told you all that I was 5 weeks pregnant, well that post was a few years ago, so here is a brief catch up. A little over two years ago, our beautiful peapod was born by emergency c section, (peapod is her nickname and a name that has stuck with her)  she was double breach and so a c section was planned, but before they could do that they had to give me injections to mature her lungs as she was going to be born at approx 38 weeks, I went in for the injection and Isla (peapod) got into distress, and had to be delivered as an emergency.  She was born 4.35pm on  Monday 10th June 2013 (12 days earlier than her due date), the Mr was working long days and wasnt able to be there, but luckily for me, after a few frantic phonecalls, my dad stepped in to collect Neve, and my mam, bless her cotton socks, was th...

A little catchup

The last time I blogged, we had just moved and were aiming to be box and bag free within 2 weeks, well...... We have been in our lovely little bungalow 6 months now and finally got rid of the last of the moving boxes about a fortnight ago!!! However it's not through sheer laziness. We decided to do things methodically, so we unpacked basic living essentials and decided to unpack each room fully as we decorated. First we decorated Neves room, perfectly pink for the princess she is. The plan was then bathroom, hallway, living room, kitchen, our bedroom. Leaving the spare bedroom cream and as an office space, somewhere I could consider starting up "Stick & Stamp" a handmade card making business. Anyway we got stuck into the decorating which we could only do on a weekend when Neve was staying at her dads for the night. Halfway through painting the bathroom I said to the Mr that I felt sick, so I stopped painting and went for some fresh air..... The Mr finished off t...

6 down 3,546 to go (more or less)

So the big moving day came, or maybe that should be moving week came. We packed up our clothes, shoes, furniture and our memories, and bundled them into the back of our cars. The new neighbours must have thought we were seriously downsizing from the sheer amount of boxes, bags and every other possible container we could find, that had our belongings stuffed in them. After umpteen car journeys we finally moved into our bungalow, and set about reassembling furniture, and unpacking cases. The most commonly used phrases in our home this week has been "have you seen the ....." "do you know which box/bag the ....... Is in?" But we are getting there, our aim is to be box and bag free within a fortnight. So I suppose I'd better stop blogging g and get back to it. As always stay safe & hug you kiddie winkles tight.
